چکیده

Stainless steel reinforcing has an elevated chloride threshold and is an attractive alternative for prestressed concrete applications. However, due to the high strength requirements for prestressing strands, concern exists about the possibility of stress corrosion cracking (SCC). This investigation screened for potential SCC development three candidate high strength alloys for use as prestressed strands in a Florida marine environments. The alloys were a common austenitic stainless steel with high nickel content UNS # S31603, a less common austenitic stainless steel with low nickel but high manganese UNS# S24000, and a duplex stainless steel with high chromium and an additional constituent, molybdenum UNS# S32205. The alloys were evaluated at various temperatures in MgCl2 solutions and also in a simulated concrete pore water solution at 60 C, followed by an anodic polarization regime as an alternative test acceleration method. The results suggest that duplex highstrength stainless UNS# S32205 performed overall better than the other two alloys.

An Investigation on Corrosion and Stress Corrosion Cracking initiation of a Ferritic Stainless Steel in a Tertiary Amine Solution

The present study focused on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and corrosion behavior of ferritic stainless steel (grade 430) in activated methyl diethanolamine (aMDEA) solution, which is classified as a tertiary amine. In this regard, cyclic polarization and U-bend tests were performed in CO2 loaded aMDEA with different concentrations at 25 and 70 °C to observe corrosion behavior and ...

Study of the Corrosion Resistance of Austenitic Stainless Steels during Conversion of Waste to Biofuel

The paper deals with the corrosion behavior of stainless steels as candidate materials for biofuel production plants by liquefaction process of the sorted organic fraction of municipal solid waste. Corrosion tests were carried out on AISI 316L and AISI 304L stainless steels at 250 °C in a batch reactor during conversion of raw material to bio-oil (biofuel precursor), by exposing specimens eithe...

ROLES OF HzS IN THE BEHAVIOR OF ENGINEERING ALLOYS: A REVIEW OF LITERATURE AND EXPERIENCE

Hydrogen sulfide (H$) has long been associated with the cause of corrosion damage and sulfide stress cracking (SSC) in high strength steels and high hardness weldments used in oil and gas production, petroleum refining, and petrochemical/chemical processing. Other applications where sulfide species have produced environmental cracking include heavy water production, electric power, marine appli...

Stress Corrosion Cracking of an Austenitic Stainless Steel in Nitrite-Containing Chloride Solutions

This article describes the susceptibility of 316L stainless steel to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in a nitrite-containing chloride solution. Slow strain rate testing (SSRT) in 30 wt. % MgCl₂ solution established SCC susceptibility, as evidenced by post-SSRT fractography. Addition of nitrite to the chloride solution, which is reported to have inhibitive influence on corrosion of stainless ste...

Electrochemical and passivation behavior investigation of ferritic stainless steel in simulated concrete pore media

The applications of stainless steel are one of the most reliable solutions in concrete structures to reduce chloride-induced corrosion problems and increase the structures service life, however, due to high prices of nickel, especially in many civil engineering projects, the austenitic stainless steel is replaced by the ferritic stainless steels. Compared with austenite stainless steel, the fer...
